About

About BADISA Koue Bokkeveld

BADISA is a ministry of compassion operating under the Dutch Reformed Church (DRC) and the Uniting Reformed Church in Southern Africa (URCSA) — established as a joint NPO (011-891) to provide professional social welfare services to communities across the Western Cape. BADISA describes itself as "a neighbour to everyone in need" and is explicitly value-driven with Jesus Christ as role model.

The Koue Bokkeveld (Cold Bokkeveld) service centre is located at 1 Kerk Street (Kerkstraat 1), Op-Die-Berg, Witzenberg Local Municipality, 6836. Op-Die-Berg is a small rural village at the foot of the Witzenberg mountain range, at the entrance to the Koue Bokkeveld fruit farming valley. The broader Koue Bokkeveld area — including the communities of Ceres, Prince Alfred Hamlet, and Op-Die-Berg — is characterised by apple, pear, and stone fruit farming with a large seasonal farm-worker population and the associated social vulnerabilities of rural farm labour including domestic violence, substance abuse, and poverty.

Services

BADISA Koue Bokkeveld's service mandate explicitly includes:

  • Violence against women, men, and children — victim empowerment support, counselling, referrals to specialist GBV services, and engagement with the SAPS.
  • Social work services — professional social work to individuals and families in crisis.
  • Family life, marriages, and parenting — strengthening family bonds and addressing relational dysfunction.
  • ECD programmes — early childhood development.
  • Older persons services — the Koue Bokkeveld Dienssentrum (Service Centre) also provides older persons day services.
  • Substance abuse / addiction — linked to the documented role of alcohol in family violence in this farming community.
  • Poverty relief — material support and community development.
