About

About Catholic Welfare and Development (CWD) Domestic Violence Project

Catholic Welfare and Development (CWD) is a Cape Town-based welfare organisation founded on the gospel values and social teachings of the Catholic Church, striving to eradicate poverty and build sustainable, self-reliant communities in disadvantaged areas around Cape Town. CWD's Domestic Violence Project operates from 37A Somerset Road, Green Point, Cape Town.

CWD is listed in the official Western Cape Directory of Services for Victims of Crime and Violence (published by the Western Cape DSD) as a confirmed victim empowerment and domestic violence support service.

Services

All services are free of charge:

  • Counselling for domestic violence survivors and their families — professional counselling addressing the psychological, relational, and practical needs of individuals who have experienced intimate partner violence and abuse.
  • Workplace counselling — CWD counsellors travel to factories and workplaces to provide domestic violence counselling for employees and employers, recognising that GBV affects productivity and workplace relationships.
  • Educational awareness raising — community and workplace presentations through role play and talks on domestic violence, rights, and available services.
  • Volunteer training — building community capacity by training volunteers to provide first-response peer support.
  • Support group establishment — creating structured, facilitated support groups for GBV survivors in communities.
  • HIV/AIDS education — integrated health education recognising the intersection of GBV and HIV/AIDS.

Note on Naming

"CWD" (Catholic Welfare and Development) is the parent organisation. The "Domestic Violence Project" is a programme of CWD, not a separately registered NPO. The website cafda.co.za was listed for CWD in the WC DSD directory — however, CAFDA (Cape Flats Development Association) is a separate entity.
