About
About FAMSA Western Cape – Khayelitsha
FAMSA Western Cape (Families South Africa – Western Cape) has been strengthening relationships for over 70 years and is one of the province's most established counselling and family support organisations. The Khayelitsha office at 49 Ntsikizi Street, Ilitha Park, is one of FAMSA WC's two main offices — alongside their Observatory head office — and serves as the primary access point for Khayelitsha residents and communities across the Cape Flats.
Khayelitsha is one of Cape Town's largest and fastest-growing townships, with an estimated 400,000–500,000 residents facing significant poverty, unemployment, and high rates of domestic violence. FAMSA's Khayelitsha office provides a culturally competent, community-embedded counselling and support service for residents who would otherwise have limited access to professional help.
Services
Relationship and Individual Counselling — free professional counselling for relationship challenges, domestic violence, trauma, grief, depression, anxiety, parenting difficulties, and family conflict. Face-to-face appointments available at the Khayelitsha office.
Men Stopping Violence Group — a structured, evidence-based programme specifically for men who are using violence or controlling behaviour in intimate relationships. The programme addresses the causes and consequences of abusive behaviour and supports men in making lasting changes.
Fatherhood Project — positive parenting and male engagement programme supporting fathers to be present, responsible, and non-violent in their children's lives.
Community Lay Counselling — training and supervision of lay counsellors in the Khayelitsha community, building community capacity for first-response emotional support.
Divorce Services — support and guidance for individuals and families going through separation and divorce, including impact on children.
Online Counselling — available for clients who cannot attend in person.
FAMtrac Training — FAMSA WC offers a range of CPD and lay-counsellor training programmes to professionals, students, and community members.
Satellite Offices
FAMSA WC also operates satellite offices in Mitchell's Plain (Alliance Francaise Building, 18 Wall Street, Portlands), Factreton (155 12th Avenue, Kensington), Bishop Lavis/Elsies River, and Dunoon/Joe Slovo — providing extended Cape Flats coverage.
