Grace House Upliftment Centre

Grace House Upliftment Centre was founded by Hendrik and Lizette van Rooyen in Krugersdorp on the West Rand — a couple who saw destitution on their doorstep and responded personally. The centre operates from 59 Kobie Krige Street, Krugersdorp, and provides the most fundamental of dignities to those who have lost everything: a safe place to sleep, something warm to eat, and a shower.

What distinguishes Grace House from many shelters is the quality of the relational environment. Residents describe it in their own words as a home, not an institution — a family where every person is seen, valued, and supported. Founder Hendrik van Rooyen and his wife Lizette are described as supportive, understanding, and personally present in residents' lives. The centre operates on Christian values but welcomes all.

Grace House receives no government funding whatsoever — everything depends on the generosity of donors, making community support directly and immediately impactful.

What They Offer Homeless and Destitute Individuals

Safe Accommodation A safe, stable place to sleep for destitute and homeless individuals in the Krugersdorp area — providing relief from the streets, the elements, and the dangers of homelessness.
