About
The centre serves children (from age 2), adolescents, adults, couples, and families through short and long-term therapy, play therapy, crisis and trauma counselling, psychological assessments, and school-based counselling programmes running weekly in primary and high schools across Johannesburg. For GBV survivors, JPCCC offers individual trauma counselling (in person in Parktown or online), crisis intervention, family therapy, and referral. Children who have been abused or exposed to domestic violence can access play therapy — the approach that allows them to express what they experienced through the language of play rather than words. JPCCC also has a Soweto satellite in Mapetla, extending reach into one of Johannesburg's largest and most underserved communities. The centre is an HPCSA-accredited internship site for educational psychologists, hosts a weekly case conference for practitioners, and offers accredited training — including trauma, bereavement, child counselling, and peer counselling for schools. Fees apply; sliding scale available; contact 011 484 1734 for hardship. Not a crisis service: for acute GBV crisis, call GBV Command Centre 0800 428 428 (toll-free, 24/7) or SADAG 0800 567 567.
