About

The Jones Safe House was founded by accident. In 2006, Bernadette and Donovan Jones were asked to provide a temporary home for children involved in a court case who had nowhere safe to go. They said yes — and never stopped saying yes. What began as an act of love in a private home near Kommetjie has grown into a registered NPO that has brought more than 100 broken children back to life. At any time, 20 to 25 children and 3 to 5 young mothers live at the Safe House as genuine members of an extended family.

The Joneses and the Quickfalls do this work entirely without salary. Every rand donated goes directly to the children. The only paid employee is a specialist teacher for the children with special needs. This extraordinary sacrifice, sustained for nearly 20 years, gives the Jones Safe House a character that no institution can replicate.

Please note: The Jones Safe House is currently facing significant financial pressure following the loss of monthly donors during COVID-19. If you are a survivor who can support them, or know someone who can, this is one of Cape Town's most deserving organisations.

What They Offer Children and Mothers

Residential Safe Care for Abused, Abandoned, and Neglected Children The Safe House provides a real family home for children who have been abused, abandoned, or neglected — including children with physical disabilities and special needs. Children are taken in as family members, not residents, and grow up with the consistency of parental love, siblings, and a stable home.

Care for Abused and Addicted Mothers Mothers who have experienced abuse or who are dealing with addiction are also welcomed — given shelter, stability, and support alongside their children. The Jones Safe House recognises that mothers and children heal best together.

Education and Specialist Teaching Children receive education and learning support — including from a dedicated specialist teacher for children with special needs — ensuring that trauma does not permanently derail their development or future.

Family Reintegration (Where Safe) Where it is safe and appropriate, the Safe House works toward reintegrating children with their families or into society — the ultimate goal of every child's time at the Safe House.

The Jones Safe House is in Kommetjie, Cape Town. To access support, donate, or get involved, call Renzo Quickfall: 072 942 8508. All donations go directly to the children.
