About

The clinic is strategically embedded within the Victim Empowerment Centre at the New Alexandra SAPS Station, working in direct daily partnership with SAPS crime prevention officers, the FCS unit, Metro Police, and a network of community organisations including ADAPT, LifeLine, Afrika Tikkun, Khulani Youth Project, and the Alex Youth Desk. Alexandra — a densely overcrowded township adjacent to Sandton with an estimated 700 people per hectare in some areas, 60% unemployment, and high rates of domestic violence, substance abuse, and child neglect — presents the full complexity of child protection challenge in an urban South African context. The Kidz Clinic was placed here precisely because that is where it is needed most. Staff include: Elizabeth Mokoena (Clinic Manager and Victim Support Co-ordinator), Vincentia Dlamini (Operations Manager, Forensic Nurse Supervisor and Child Safety Consultant), Luke Lamprecht (Child Safety Consultant), Pearl Nyamende (Social Worker), and Constance Mudau (Auxiliary Social Worker). The clinic provides: forensic nursing (J88 documentation, forensic evidence collection for child sexual abuse and assault); social work services (risk assessment, statutory intervention, family preservation, referrals); victim support co-ordination; community awareness campaigns; and school-based protective behaviours education. All child abuse presentations in the Alexandra area — whether referred by SAPS, a school, a community member, or a caregiver — can be seen at this clinic. For child abuse crisis: Childline 116 (toll-free, 24/7). For GBV: GBV Command Centre 0800 428 428 (toll-free, 24/7). WMACA main office: 011 789 8815
