About

Klipspruit West Family Centre (KWFC) is a community-rooted organisation in the heart of Soweto, founded by the late Pretty Barrenton — a dedicated community activist whose vision was to build a safe and empowering space for the most vulnerable in Klipspruit West. The centre has become a focal point for child welfare, family support, and early childhood development in the area. In recognition of its importance, the Gautrain Management Agency (GMA) in February 2026 invested R1.7 million to build a brand new Early Childhood Development (ECD) facility as an expansion of the existing centre — a significant milestone in the community's history.

The centre is governed by a community board, maintaining its roots in local leadership and accountability. Their motto reflects their character: good communication with the community.

What They Offer Survivors and Families

Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre KWFC's newly expanded ECD facility accommodates more than 40 children — meaning over 40 households can have their children safely cared for and educated while parents work, seek employment, or access support services. The facility includes purpose-built classrooms, play areas, and amenities for children from birth through school-going age.

Family Support Services As a family centre, KWFC provides welfare and support services for vulnerable families in Klipspruit West — a community centre where people can access guidance, referrals, and practical help when family life is under pressure. Their work addresses the social conditions that make children and women most vulnerable to harm.

Community Outreach KWFC connects community members with social services, government support, and other organisations. Their strong ties to the Department of Social Development mean they can navigate the system on behalf of vulnerable families.

KWFC is in Soweto. Connect with them via their Facebook page to find out about current services, availability, and how to access support: facebook.com/KLIPSPRUITWESTFAMILYCENTRE
