About

a GBVF Respond Fund-supported NPO providing free psychosocial support, counselling, court accompaniment, and GBV awareness services to survivors of gender-based violence and sexual violence in Mthatha and the OR Tambo District, Eastern Cape. OR Tambo is one of South Africa's most economically disadvantaged districts, and Mthatha, as its main urban centre, sees a high volume of GBV cases — many survivors travelling long distances to access services. MWSC's community-based model complements the clinical response of the Sinawe Thuthuzela Care Centre (opposite Mthatha General Hospital) by providing counselling, ongoing survivor support, and court accompaniment for women moving through the criminal justice process. GBV crisis: 0800 428 428 (toll-free, 24/7).
