One life FOUNDATION

One Life Foundation was incorporated as a non-profit company in 2016 (NPC 2016/115154/08) and registered as an NPO (250-654) with Section 18A PBO status, meaning donations to the organisation are tax-deductible — a mark of its formal accountability and SARS recognition.

Faith-Rooted Community Development

One Life Foundation is explicit about its Christian identity. Its mission statement references Matthew 25:40 ("Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me") and frames the work as "embodying the love of Jesus through impactful, practical service within communities." This places One Life Foundation within South Africa's substantial tradition of faith-based community development organisations — organisations whose spiritual commitments motivate and sustain their practical service, but whose programmes are delivered to all community members regardless of faith.

The organisation is committed to moving beyond immediate relief — food, clothing, shelter — to sustainable, long-term benefits that transform the lives of individuals and communities. Its community centre model is designed as a replicable platform: programmes and projects developed in one location that can be adapted and extended to new communities.

Community Centres

One Life Foundation's operational model centres on community centres as the hub through which its programmes are delivered. These centres provide an accessible, community-based location for people to access the Foundation's services and activities — whether in Hayfields itself or in the communities it reaches through outreach.

Relevance to GBV Survivors

One Life Foundation is not a GBV crisis service. It does not provide emergency shelter, a 24/7 helpline, or forensic or legal support. Its relevance to GBV survivors in the Pietermaritzburg area is as a community development and practical support resource — the kind of holistic, faith-rooted community anchor that can provide connection, practical assistance, and ongoing support for women rebuilding their lives after a crisis. For survivors who have already accessed acute GBV services (via SAPS, a shelter, or the GBV Command Centre 0800 428 428) and are in the rebuilding phase, One Life Foundation's community centre may offer a point of connection and ongoing support in the uMsunduzi area.
