It's a place where they can find refuge, support, and empowerment as they work to rebuild their lives and become independent. Phambili Women's Shelter (Rosemoore Refuge for Battered Women and Children) — 044 873 4530 / cnr Clinic Street & Kanarie Street, Rosemoore, George 6530, Western Cape — is the primary emergency women's shelter in George, offering free residential accommodation to up to 25 women fleeing GBV, intimate partner violence, and domestic abuse, for a stay of up to 3 months. "Phambili" means "forward" — reflecting its mission of empowering survivors to rebuild independent, violence-free lives. During their stay, residents receive psychosocial support, safety planning, skills development and practical empowerment training, and referral to legal services and the courts. The shelter relies on community donations and volunteers. George Mayor von Brandis visited in February 2025 and pledged municipal support.
