Residential Care for Abuse Survivors

The Centre's primary service is residential care: a safe home for women and their children who are survivors of domestic violence, rape assault, or other forms of abuse. The Centre describes itself explicitly as "a safe home away from home" — a deliberate choice of language that signals its goal of providing not just physical safety but a sense of belonging, normalcy, and care during one of the most destabilising periods of a woman's life.

Women and their children are accommodated in a safe, relaxed atmosphere — an environment designed to allow recovery and stabilisation after trauma, not to replicate the institutional coldness that can characterise larger government facilities.

Victim Empowerment Services

Alongside residential care, the Centre provides victim empowerment services. The empowerment model recognises that safety is not the final destination: it is the starting point from which women can begin to rebuild their lives, their confidence, and their independence. The specific programmes offered include trauma support and psychosocial assistance, as well as the practical and legal guidance that survivors need to navigate the systems they must engage with — police, courts, social services, housing — while in crisis.

Accessibility and Hours

The Centre's extended weekday hours — 09:00–23:00 Monday through Friday, and 09:00–16:00 on Sundays — reflect a practical acknowledgement that women often reach a decision point in the evenings, after work hours, when something has happened at home that makes continuing to stay unsafe. The Centre's extended hours mean it is reachable during these high-risk windows.

Provincial Recognition

The Theodorah Ndaba Victim Support Centre was one of a small number of East Rand NPOs selected by the Gauteng Provincial Government to receive a vehicle donation, enabling its community workers to conduct outreach and transport survivors to services. This recognition reflects the Centre's established standing in the Daveyton and broader Ekurhuleni welfare network.
