About
About Imisebeyelanga Services
Imisebeyelanga Services is a registered NPO founded in 2004 and based at 248 Ben Viljoen Street, Pretoria North (0182), in the City of Tshwane. The organisation takes its name from the isiZulu word meaning "rays of light." Operating across Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and North West, Imisebeyelanga is particularly active in the densely populated peri-urban communities north of Pretoria: Soshanguve, Mabopane, Ga-Rankuwa, Klipgat, Moeka, Ga-Mmotla, New Eersterust, Winterveldt, Ratjepane, Swartdam, Hebron, and Temba.
The organisation is funded by the Department of Arts and Culture, the Department of Health, the Netherlands Embassy, the National Gambling Board, the National Lotteries Commission, and Gautrain, among others. To date, Imisebeyelanga has assisted over 163,856 victims and trained over 3,000 people, making it one of the most impactful victim empowerment organisations in the Tshwane North area.
Victim Empowerment Programme
The Victim Empowerment Programme is Imisebeyelanga's core GBV-facing service. It delivers direct service to victims of: - Gender-based violence and domestic abuse - Child abuse and neglect - Sexual offences including rape and molestation - Human trafficking - Other relevant social concerns including substance abuse and family violence
Through the VEP, Imisebeyelanga provides case management support, psychosocial assistance, referrals to specialist GBV and legal services, and community awareness campaigns that address the social norms and silences that enable GBV in their communities.
Community Awareness and Prevention
A significant part of Imisebeyelanga's work is community-facing: mobile awareness campaigns that travel into informal settlements and townships to educate residents on GBV, child rights, sexual offences, and human trafficking. These campaigns raise awareness of where to seek help and challenge the attitudes that normalise violence.
Additional Programmes
- Early Childhood Development (ECD) — training for ECD educators across the organisation's operational communities.
- Home-Based Care — training and support for community volunteers providing care to terminally ill and frail persons, filling a critical gap in communities with limited healthcare access.
- NPO Capacity Building — Imisebeyelanga helps other NPOs in their network become compliant with government specifications, access funding, and develop management skills — having assisted over 155 NGOs in this way.
