About

About Witkoppen Clinic

Witkoppen Clinic is a South African non-profit organisation that has been providing primary healthcare and social welfare services to the communities of Fourways and surrounds since 1946. Located at 105 Winnie Mandela Drive, Fourways, Gauteng, the clinic sees over 5,000 patients per month and operates a full-service model including an emergency room, pharmacy, dental clinic, mental health services, HIV and TB management, maternal and child health, nutrition, and social services — all under one roof. The clinic relies entirely on donor funding.

Gender-Based Violence Services

Witkoppen Clinic operates a dedicated GBV Services Programme providing an integrated, person-centred response to survivors of gender-based violence. Their GBV programme treats and supports the whole person — mental, social, and physical wellbeing — in a safe and non-judgmental space. Services include:

  • Psychotherapy and counselling for depression, anxiety, trauma, and PTSD resulting from GBV or sexual assault.
  • Social services consultations and guidance — social workers assist survivors with accessing social support, understanding their rights, safety planning, and referrals to shelters and legal services.
  • J88 form completion — the J88 is the medico-legal form used in courts as evidence of injuries from assault. Witkoppen's medical staff are trained to complete this form correctly, ensuring survivors have the documentation needed to pursue criminal and civil proceedings.
  • Medical treatment and clinical care for minor physical trauma resulting from violence.
  • Appropriate referrals to specialist services for acute sexual assault (Sunninghill Hospital or Olivedale Clinic), police reporting, shelter, legal aid, and specialist GBV organisations.

Witkoppen also maintains a comprehensive published directory of GBV service providers downloadable from their website — making them a useful hub for professionals and survivors navigating the Gauteng GBV response landscape.

Important Note for Acute Rape Survivors

Witkoppen is not a forensic sexual assault examination centre. Survivors of recent sexual assault requiring forensic examination, PEP, and emergency medical treatment should go directly to Sunninghill Hospital or Olivedale Clinic as soon as possible after an assault, or call SAPS on 10111. Witkoppen's GBV programme is designed for post-acute care, counselling, documentation, and ongoing support.

Community Impact

Witkoppen serves over 5,000 patients per month and supports more than 2,000 orphans and vulnerable children through their social services arm. The clinic operates a mobile clinic that extends services into informal settlements and under-served areas across Fourways and surrounds, including the broader Northriding, Cosmo City, and Bloubosrand communities.
